Shea Butters

Pure African shea butter is a fat extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree. The natural ivory color of the raw butter changes to yellow when borututu root or palm oil are added to it. This nut butter has many uses, including as a salve, lotion, or moisturizer. It’s also edible, and many people use it as a replacement for cocoa butter. Discover the benefits, types, and uses of our pure African shea butter.

Benefits of Shea Butter

Shea fat contains high levels of fatty acids, including oleic acid, stearic acid and linoleic acid. These fatty acids form a protective barrier on your skin. This barrier guards against moisture loss, irritation and the development of fine lines and wrinkles. These fatty acids also contain antioxidants that help your skin repair itself after damage from the sun and environmental contaminants. Shea butter melts at body temperature, which allows your skin to quickly absorb it. This provides nearly instant relief for irritated, itchy, and dry skin. Using the butter of shea trees may also provide relief from cracked heels, stretch marks, scars, burns, frizzy hair, rashes, acne, dermatitis, hives, eczema and psoriasis.

Types of Better Shea Butter

We offer a range of butters produced by different varieties of shea trees. The location of the shea trees also changes some of the butter’s properties, including its color, fatty acid content and scent.

Ivory

This is natural shea butter. It varies in color from ivory to light gray. It offers a light consistency and slightly nutty scent. Ivory shea butter benefits all skin types, and it’s ideal for use on a child’s sensitive skin.

Yellow

Yellow shea butter combines the fat from shea nuts with fats from burututu roots. The borututu roots provide the light to golden yellow color. Yellow shea butter is thicker and harder than ivory, and it takes the skin longer to absorb. It also lasts longer, so you only need to apply it twice a day. On people with fair skin, it may leave a light yellow glow or sheen.
