Morning and nightly beauty routines have been integrated into many women’s lives in the 21st century. Whether it’s investing in clay masks, or going all in on a skin care line, women have been prone to take control of their routines. Our skin is the biggest and most exposed organ in our body and is constantly protecting us from disease and infection. When we neglect this essential piece of our health, it can cause irreversible damage. The good news is, women all around the world are investing more time to take care of their body, even if they have the most basic routine. There are, however, many steps we are missing that can ultimately kick our regimen up a notch, and ultimately lead us to mastering our skin care routine. Read below for tips to boost up your morning and nightly routines!
Organize your products
The first, and arguably the most important step, technically has nothing to do with your skin. To master your skin care routine, it’s paramount to store your beauty products and accessories in proper storage bins to help you stay organized. Simply put, organize your products to optimize your time. Many of us live insanely busy lives and our free time is quite precious to us. If we can’t find a product we need, most likely we’ll skip that step and move on.
Not only will proper organization help in your daily beauty routine, but it can ultimately lead to an increased lifespan of your products as well. Air can become a major antagonist when it comes to your makeup and their supplies, and with the appropriate bins, you’ll become the master of your skincare storage!
Remove makeup at night
Did you know your skin actually renews itself while you sleep? Therefore, when you go to bed with a full face of makeup on, you are actually preventing that necessary cycle from happening. You’re preventing actual ‘beauty sleep’! We need to let our skin breath. If you consistently leave your makeup on, it can eventually lead to signs of fatigue, and even some intense break outs. It’s paramount to set your skin up with the best chance. To do this, you should practice the correct skin regimen, especially around things you can control. When it comes to skin health, there are a lot of things you simply do not have control over, yet this step is something you can easily make into a habit during your nightly routine.
Wear sunscreen
When you expose your skin to the sun for extended periods of time, you are putting yourself at risk for short and long term skin damage. Along with the obvious, somewhat scary threats like skin cancer, you are also prematurely aging your skin. With this comes wrinkles, age spots, and fine lines. When it comes to the sun, a great defense is the best offense – wear your sunscreen! There a million excuses you can offer up to choosing to not wear sunscreen, one of them even being just disliking the over the counter products offered and how they feel on your skin. However, you can actually make your own sunscreen, using shea butter. With shea butter as an ingredient, your skin will remain moisturized as the sun dries it out. This way you’ll still obtain that summer glow you’re after all while protecting your sacred skin!
Stay hydrated
Not only should you be buying products that have hydrating formulas for your skin, but you should also be hydrating your body by drinking around 8 glasses of water each day. Dr. Mona Gonhara, a dermatologist in Connecticut states, “A lack of water means less radiance and more sag.”
Remembering to stay on track with consuming the correct amount of H2O can be tough as you go through the busy schedule that is your life. However, there are now water bottles that keep you on track, physically glowing to remind you it’s time to take a sip to stay on course with your daily goals. Having one of these around will make it hard to forget!
Change with the seasons
As the weather starts to get a little chilly, we begin to switch out our wardrobe to adapt to the outdoors. Our skincare should not be any different! As we transition from season to season it brings a whole new set of problems to avoid and fight against. When the humidity drops as we enter fall and winter, our skin moisture level will drop, leaving our skin dry. On the other hand, the spring and summer bring an increase in humidity, potentially leading to oily skin. Staying conscious of the different needs each season brings is an ultimate skincare master hack. For further reference, refer to this month to month guide!
Find products that work for you
Last, but certainly not least, it is crucial to find products that work best with your unique skin. Everyone has their own needs and necessities when it comes to their all-around health, and that does not change when it comes to skin care. One size does not fit all. It’s okay to start small and simple while you begin to test out the best products for your skin type, there will be a lot of trial and error, but in the end, it’s worth it!
The simple act of showing your skin some extra tender love and care will go a long way. It can also be extremely helpful to devote one day a week to a 15 minute face mask, or a bath with a cleansing body scrub. Find your groove, and make sure you stick to it!
