The Most Important End-Of-Summer Skin Care Routine

What is the Most Important End-Of-Summer Skin Care Routine? The answer is: scrubs.

Summer often means sunburns, skin irritations, humidity, sweating and overall challenging the largest organ you have. Introducing a good body scrub in your routine for a couple of weeks means glowing skin, soft and ready for a new season.

The basic ingredient of scrubs is either salt or sugar, and knowing which one to use is important to achieve the results you are after. We have 3 different scrub recipes depending on what part of your body you want to concentrate on, and they include easy-to-remember tips that will help you create your own body scrubs – by the way, Christmas is not too far and making home made skin care creations is a great gift idea!

The recipes below are for a 1-2 time use only, that way you can try the products and tweak them (or not) according to your preference. When making a larger batch, try avoiding water from getting in the jar since oil + water = eventual mold (although the amount of oil is minor so don’t stress this point but be aware of it).

The best way to use scrubs is right after you have washed your face/body/hands. The exfoliation plus the oil in your recipe will leave a super soft skin and you will get addicted to scrubs for life. You’re welcome.

1. Face & Lips Scrub Recipe

Face Scrub_1

Tip #1: For a non-abrasive and gentle scrub, use a fine sugar such as white or organic coconut palm sugar.

Tip #2: Use a dry oil such as Rosehip or Argan. Heavier oils tend to leave an annoying oily feel.

Recipe

(good for two applications)

Mix 1 tablespoon of Sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of Rosehip Seed Oil and 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla Extract. At first it won’t look like you have enough oil to tie the ingredients together, but keep mixing them for a minute and you will have the perfect gentle scrub for your face and lips.

2. Body Scrub Recipe

Tip #1: Use any oil except Coconut Oil, as it will solidify and possibly clog your drains.

Tip #2: Be generous with your Essential Oils and fragrance ingredients such as lemon rind or or lavender flowers, and you will have an awesome aromatherapy session while you shower and scrub.

Recipe

(good for 1-2 applications)

Mix 4 tablespoons of Brown Sugar, 3 teaspoons of Jojoba Oil, 15 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 15 drops of Lemon Essential Oil. And if you are a lemon fanatic like us, add the zest of one large lemon.

3. Hands (& feet) Scrub Recipe

Hands Scrub

Tip #1: Use salt for hands and feet scrubs, it does a great job of exfoliating and softening your extremities.

Tip #2: Add essential oils that are known for antiseptic properties, such as tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, bergamot and lavender.

Recipe

(good for about 1 week if used daily)

Mix 4 tablespoons of Salt, 3 teaspoons of Jojoba Oil, 10 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil and 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (or any other essential oils you have available. Other oils may require 15 + 15 drops to be detected in this recipe).
